Resumo.
In recognizing the contribution of the folkcommunication theory to the understanding of cultural processes, the present work proposes to discuss the concept of frontier culture from the theoretical and empirical point of view. The research encompasses the thematization of the frontier in journalism, the object of which is news portals in the region known as the Triple Frontier (comprised of the cities of Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, and Puerto Iguazu, Argentina), in order to observe the journalistic coverage in the midst of conflicts and multicultural relations. The vehicles chosen are the La Voz de Cataratas (Argentina), Jornal do Iguassú (Brazil) and Vanguardia (Paraguay) sites, and the analysis includes a random sampling of September 2016, which reached a set of 21 news units in these three vehicles, involving border issues, with a predominance of security news and its developments.
